Tom Hazlehurst is a Managing Director at IEQ Capital, where he advises clients on investment strategy, portfolio construction, and long-term wealth management considerations. In his role, he works closely with families, family offices, and institutional investors, drawing on deep experience across public and private markets, investment research, and portfolio management. Mr. Hazlehurst also works closely with IEQ’s Research Team to source and assess investment opportunities.
Prior to joining IEQ, Mr. Hazlehurst founded Laird Group in 2023, an investment partnership based in Austin, Texas. As Founder and Managing Partner of Laird Group, he built and launched the firm, raising capital, assembling a team, executing a differentiated investment process, building institutional-grade operations, and fostering a culture that prioritizes curiosity, accountability, and excellence. Previously, Mr. Hazlehurst spent 17 years at Fremont Group, the Bechtel family office, where he sourced, researched, and managed investments across diverse sectors while building deep relationships with management teams, internal team members, and limited partners. Earlier in his career, he served as an Investment Banking Analyst in the Technology Group at Credit Suisse First Boston and as an Analyst at Stonebrook Fund Management, a long/short equity hedge fund.
Mr. Hazlehurst holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Economy from Princeton University. He is actively involved in the Austin community through Dell Children’s Trust, Salvation Army Austin Area Command, Eanes Education Foundation, and Friends of the Children, Austin.
Originally from the Bay Area, Mr. Hazlehurst and his family moved to Austin, Texas in 2020. He and his wife, Christine, now live in Austin with their four children, Madison, Finn, June, and Leo.
